Derby Day in Review

Guest Author, Student Council Historian, Addi V.
This week, we celebrated our annual Derby day festival activities. We started off with the kindergarteners parade to show off their handmade derby hats. Next, we had the fourth graders walk their pets, and show all of the school their adorable cats, dogs, hamsters, and a SNAKE in our annual Pet-a-sus Parade. After that, we had a new event where the eighth graders competed in many Derby-themed relay races, including a race where they balanced cups of water on a lunch tray and poured them out into an empty milk jug. Whatever team filled to the line quickest won. They competed in this race along with many others that mimiced the Thunder air show, Boat Race, Bed Race, Marathon, and Derby Race. During their lunches, students enjoyed a chow wagon cook-out lunch, where the Flik chefs grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. Finally, we had a dance party during recess, enjoyed cotton candy from Student Council, and the third graders had a lemonade stand and bake sale to support their mission, St. Joseph's Children Home. We, the 6th-8th grade members of Student Council, hope that all of our students and their families enjoyed our school day Derby festival activities! We definitely enjoyed planning and organizing them again this year.
