The teachers of the sixth grade students believe that all students can achieve at high levels, and we strive to offer a learning environment that promotes opportunities for students to work to their potentials. We emphasize Higher Order Thinking Skills throughout the curriculum and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the students’ different learning styles and abilities. Communication is strong among the teachers of each discipline at this level to ensure a continuous progression of the scope and sequence of the curriculum.
The sixth grade students participate in service learning projects through their missions. Throughout the year, sixth grade students support refugee families in the community through various activities, such as creating welcoming baskets. As part of the church community, each class is involved in planning several weekly masses for the entire school and prepared a special paraliturgy for Holy Thursday.
We believe in a learning environment that offers positive nurturing and encouragement. Focus at this level is on developing study skills, independent thinking, and cooperative learning. Language Arts stresses mastery in reading comprehension, vocabulary, listening, and writing. Math stresses basic skills and conceptual understanding. The focus in Social Studies is on World Geography for the sixth grade. In Science, students explore and investigate earth science in sixth grade. Religion for the sixth grade focuses on the Old Testament of the Bible.
From their earliest years here at Holy Trinity Parish School, students cannot wait for sixth grade. It is in sixth grade that students spend several days and nights at Camp Piomingo at Otter Creek State Park. While at Camp Piomingo, students participate in rock climbing, cave exploration, and a ropes course, all with the ultimate goal of team building that will carry over into the academic environment.
