Open Positions for 2017-2018 School Year:

READING SPECIALIST (K-8) JOB DESCRIPTION
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree with major in assigned area
  • Reading specialist or special education certification preferred
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Commitment to ongoing education/professional development

Reports to:
  • Director of Student Achievement, Assistant Principal, and Principal
 
Job Goals:
  • To coordinate and facilitate the school’s literacy intervention program for students with identified reading delays.
 
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and facilitate the school’s literacy intervention program.  
  • Teach literacy intervention to small groups of students in Grades K-3 using research based strategies and resources
  • Support students in Grades 4-8 who have been identified with a diagnosed specific reading difference
  • Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the literacy needs of students
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Student Achievement and teachers to set learning goals and write School Accommodation Plans for identified students
  • Be responsible for collection of data, analysis of data results, and shares the findings with Administration team and teachers
  • Assist students using computer based programs and materials related to literacy programs
  • Maintain and report to teachers and parents accurate and up-to-date records of all students’ progress
  • Serve as a member of the literacy team to evaluate programs, adopt new literacy materials, etc.
  • Collaborate/communicate effectively and positively with colleagues and parents (including but not limited to PTS conferences, accommodation meetings, and other meetings as scheduled)
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy as assigned by supervisor.  
 
Terms of Employment:
  • Regular professional teacher status.
 
Evaluation:
  • Performance will be assessed annually by the principal and assistant principal.
