KYA (Kentucky Youth Assembly)

From December 9 through December 11, fourteen students from grades 6, 7, and 8 participated in the Kentucky Youth Assembly sponsored by the YMCA.  This experiential learning program allows students to serve as part of a model state government.  Beginning in September, the students met to research state policy issues, develop and write new bills, and prepare displays and presentations.  Once at the Assembly, they became delegates and worked with over 1,000 other students from all over Kentucky to present, debate, and pass or defeat proposed bills.  Students then went to Frankfort where some of the bills were presented to this student led legislature.  Not only did students learn valuable lessons about how our government works, but they also developed leadership, communication, and social skills.  Holy Trinity was recognized with several awards at the closing session, including Premier Delegation, Outstanding Delegate, and Outstanding Speaker.  Congratulations to all of our delegates and their advisors!  The next opportunity to participate in a YMCA leadership assembly is KUNA held in March.
