Students Participate in Virtual KYA

This week, a few of our Y Club participants attended the Virtual Middle School KYA conference with the Kentucky Y. During KYA, students participate in mock state government. Sponsors present bills they believe should be law in Kentucky. Freshman leaders elected last year as 8th graders serve as Governor, Speaker of the House, and Speaker of the Senate leading discussion and guiding fair debate. Bills can be passed back and forth between the House and Senate, with a successful bill making it to the student governor’s office, where students then present their bill idea to the governor and Lt. Governor.

Congratulations to our student participants who earned a Premier Delegation award, as well as Eden H, 6th grader, who earned and Outstanding Delegate award, too!

The rest of our KYA delegation of more than 30 middle school students will participate in person in December. Good luck!
