Third grade recently studied and discussed the important commitment of veterans on Veteran’s Day. They read about Veteran’s Day in Social Studies and watched a video. They then connected it to religion and wrote a prayer for Veterans. In reading, they learned about the history of the flag, connecting the 13 colonies to the 13 stripes, as they are currently doing their American Revolution Magic Tree House unit. They also did a directed drawing of the flag to put on cards they made to send to veterans they knew or those at the VA Hospital in Louisville.
Ms. Mitchell’s class had a special guest on Veteran’s Day, too! Her dad, who served in the Vietnam War, joined her class via Zoom to discuss Veteran’s Day and the role veterans have in our communities. Thank you for your service! 3M sent their cards to him, in appreciation of his time in the service, as well as his time spent with the class.
The students really enjoyed learning about Veteran’s Day and we appreciate our teachers sharing this lesson with our students.
