Congratulations Boosters Mary T. Meagher Award Honorees
The Mary T. Meagher Award is sponsored by the Holy Trinity Boosters and given each year to an 8th grade male and female student at Holy Trinity based on the following criteria: Athletic participation and competition; Christian leadership; and Academic success. The award is named after a 1979 graduate of Holy Trinity School.
Mary T. swam for 3 US Olympic teams – 1980, 1984, and 1988. She won 3 gold medals at the ’84 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and silver and bronze in 1988. But she is best known for 1981 when she set world records in the 100 and 200 meter butterfly that stood for nearly 20 years. Sports Illustrated later called the 100-meter record “one of the top 5 greatest, single event records of all time in any sport.” Mary T. set 7 world records during her career, earning the nickname “Madame Butterfly”. She is widely recognized as the greatest female butterfly swimmer ever!
Mary T. and the Holy Trinity Boosters would like to congratulate this year’s winners: Bryce Heitmann and Claire Russell!
This year, Clare played basketball, powder puff football, lacrosse, and field hockey. Bryce played football, basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball this year.
