Students Participate in Derby Activities

Addi V, Student Council Historian
On Tuesday, May 3, students in Pre-K through 8th grade participated in a variety of Derby activities, all funded by the Student Council's fundraising efforts throughout the year.

The day started with our Petasus Parade, during which Kindergarteners display hats they have created while also wearing formerly-used jockey silks from various race tracks. Fourth grade students also participate in this parade with their pets (the PETasus parade part of the day). Students walk with their pets, some of which are dressed in various Oaks lillies and Derby roses.

Throughout the day, classes visit various portions of our Chow Wagon. Ms. Probus, our school counselor, serves as our DJ playing a variety of musical tunes for students to dance to and enjoy outside. Third grade sells lemonade to support their mission, the St. Joseph's Children's Home. Parent volunteers serve Snow Cones, paid for by Student Council. Students and teachers also enjoy lunch outside around our campus. Finally, students enjoy time in bounce houses or an obstacle course.

Thank you to all of our parents that helped serve Snow Cones and brought pets to school. Thank you also to all of our Student Council members who worked to hard to make Derby Day a success and pay for the day's activities.
