Archbishop Kurtz Visits Holy Trinity Parish School

On Wednesday, March 2, Archbishop Kurtz visited Holy Trinity students. He said the weekly all-school Liturgy, before greeting students as they left Mass. After Mass, he visited a variety of classrooms.
  • Pre-K-G students recently drew portraits of Archbishop Kurtz while studying him. Archbishop Kurtz saw the portraits on Twitter and wanted to see them, as well as meet the students in person. The students truly lit up and were so excited when he surprised them in their classroom.
  • KG Kindergarten students have minion characters on their hallway bulletin board. Each month, they dress the minions with hats to represent something they are studying. This week, they decided to add the Archbishop's mitre and celebrated "A Minion Reasons to Love our Archbishop".  The students loved sharing who came up with the idea, as well as other ways they've dressed their minions when he visited.
  • 1st Grade students completed an Archbishop report on Archbishop Kurtz, much like the Saint reports they completed in October for their All Saints Day presentations. When he visited, they reminded him of his birthday on August 15, so he asked that they pray for him, too. He said he was going to be 70 and some students pointed out that they were 7 and both numbers had a 7 in it!
  • 2nd grade students were excited to share stories of their recent first Reconcilation with Archbishop Kurtz. The main reason Archbishop Kurtz came was with an invitation to visit the 2nd graders as they prepared for their First Eucharist. He spoke about his staff and the symbols on it, as well as how and why he became a bishop. He also talked to them aabout the importance of not just their first eucharist, but more importantly, he said, their 20th Eucharist. He explained that when you've received the Eucharist 20 times, you're building a tradition and habit of going to Mass and receiving the Eucharist. That's more important than the 1st one, he said.
  • 8th grade Spanish students invited Archbishop Kurtz into their classroom to share their Catholic spanish studies with him. Each class begins with students praying either the Hail Mary or Our Father in Spanish, so the Archbishop joined them in prayer. They then shared their studies of the Pope's visit to Mexico and sang their Pope Francis song with him that they've been singing in class, as well. Finally, they shared their monthly Year of Mercy prayers in Spanish with Father.
All students enjoyed meeting and visiting with the Archbishop. We're grateful to Father Nick Brown for organizing his visit and appreciate him spending his morning with us!
