Summer Letter from the Principal

July 8, 2015

Dear School Families,

Greetings!  I hope everyone is having a fun, safe, and relaxing summer.  I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our new students/families.  We know that your experience here at Holy Trinity Parish School will be rewarding.

The following contains information about the Registration process and the 2015-2016 school year. I realize it is a long letter, but please take time to read all of the information listed below.  The school office will be open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, through the month of July.   Beginning August 4th, we will resume normal school hours.

v   OUTGOING FACULTY AND STAFF: We want to wish those faculty and staff members who are not coming back next year the very best in their future endeavors.  Mrs. Paula Cleveland, Kindergarten Teacher, and Mrs. Sue Smith, bookkeeper, will be retiring at the end of this year.  We want to thank Mrs. Cleveland and Mrs. Smith for their years of service at Holy Trinity and wish them the best in this new phase of their lives.  Additionally, Mrs. Anna Leigh Skinner, Pre-K Teacher, Mrs. Amy Bain, 2nd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Beth Wallingford, part-time Science Teacher, and Ms. Lena Geary, 7th/8th Grade Math Teacher,  will not be returning to Holy Trinity next year.  Mrs. Skinner is proud to announce that she and her husband are expecting their third child.  They will have three children under the age of four.  We want to wish her all the best as she focuses her energy and attention on her family.  Mrs. Amy Bain is moving back to Nashville, Tennessee.  Mrs. Bain is moving back to Nashville to be closer to family and friends. We wish her the very best at her new school in Nashville.  Mrs. Wallingford is moving with her family to Oldham County.  Ms. Lena Geary has decided to leave Holy Trinity to pursue other endeavors.  We want to wish Ms. Geary the very best with these new endeavors. We are also saying goodbye to some of our Instructional Assistants/Staff.  Mrs. DeMaris King, Ms. English Goldsborough, Mrs. Lou Ann Smith, Mrs. Melissa Cahill, Mrs. Bonnie Johnson, and Mrs. Sally Humphreys (Writing Coach) will all be leaving Holy Trinity at the end of this year. We want to recognize and thank all of these teachers/staff members for their years of service to Holy Trinity and to the Archdiocese of Louisville.

v   FAMALIAR FACE, NEW PLACE: Ms. Erin Ledene, our current 3rdgrade teacher, will be moving to Kindergarten.  She is truly excited to teach and work with this age of student.

v   INCOMING FACULTY AND STAFF:  We had an extensive interview process and feel we have some amazing teachers coming into Holy Trinity.

Ms. Mary Charles Pence will be our new Second Grade Teacher at Holy Trinity.  Ms. Pence is a recent graduate of Ole Miss.  She comes highly recommended by all who have worked with her in and out of the classroom.  Mrs. Billig and Ms. Stocking were both a part of the interviewing process and immediately selected Ms. Pence as their wish for a partner teacher. We are excited to have Ms. Pence as part of our faculty, and she has already been involved with shadowing and sitting in on our 2nd grade classrooms.

Mrs. Tiffany Daugherty will be our new Third Grade Teacher.  Mrs. Daugherty has taught for seven years, with the last three being at Universal Academy in Coppell, Texas.   Mrs. Daugherty’s references were quick to point out her excellence in the class, the care she has for her students and their parents, and her dedication to teaching.  Mrs. Muller and Mrs. Baker are excited to have her as part of their third grade teaching team.

Mrs. Emily Griffin, our former 7th Grade Science teacher, returns to Holy Trinity to be our 7th and 8th Grade Math Teacher.  Mrs. Griffin taught middle school math and science last year at St. Albert the Great.  We are extremely excited to have Mrs. Griffin back as part of our junior high faculty and can’t wait for our students to meet her in August.

Ms. Julie McGrath is our new Pre-K teacher.  Ms. McGrath has taught for nine years in Catholic schools in South Carolina.  She has strong ties to Louisville as many of her uncles and aunts live here.   She has her masters in Early Childhood Education and has strong recommendations from supervisors.

Mrs. Sarah Dotsey, our former 6th Grade LA/Lit Teacher, is returning to Holy Trinity to be our writing coach.  Mrs. Dotsey and her husband, Roger, just moved back to Louisville with their son, Bear.  We are excited to have Mrs. Dotsey back with us in this role.

We are currently interviewing for a part time 7th Grade Science Teacher.

v  IMPORTANT CARPOOL ANNOUNCEMENT: Starting in the 2015-2016 school year, the carpool line that was previously the first line (the short one nearest the portico) will be eliminated. This decision was made to allow access to the parking lot in an emergency.
v
v  THANK YOU PTA!:   We are extremely excited about the commitment the PTA and you, our parents, have made to our school this spring.  Through your generosity, we have purchased 10 new touchscreen boards.  These will be placed in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms, as well as the computer lab.

v  RENOVATIONS:  As usual, our maintenance crew is hard at work this summer. In addition to the normal summer jobs that need to be done, they are working hard to make some physical improvements to our building. The floors in two of the first floor classrooms have been replaced.  It is our hope that we will replace the floors in a few classrooms every year.   Finally, the second floor bathrooms located near the fourth grade classrooms are being renovated.

v  REGISTRATION MATERIALS:  We are excited to have our registration materials online this year.  See the list below with links. Please look over the materials and return any necessary forms to the school office by August 1st.  If there have been any changes in your family’s personal information, e.g., cell phone numbers, address, work information, email addresses, etc., please be sure to go into your myHTPS account and make the changes there.

v  PRE-K:  We will be hosting a Pre-K Potluck Dinner and Orientation Night for Adults Only on Wednesday, August 5th at 5:00pm in the Library.  Please note that from 5:00pm-6:30pm, we will be hosting Safe Environment Training for any parent who has not received this course.  This course must be completed before any adult is allowed to coach, chaperone, or in short, interact with students at Holy Trinity.  If you have already received this training, we look forward to seeing you at 6:30pm.  We hope to see everyone there.

v  KINDERGARTEN PARENTS: Mark your calendars! We are having a Get-Acquainted Kindergarten Potluck Dinner and Orientation Night for Adults Only on Wednesday, August 5th at 5:00pm in the Adult Formation Room. This will be an evening for parents to meet other Kindergarten parents, the Kindergarten teachers, the Administrators, learn about Kindergarten procedures, curriculum, and classroom policies, as well as a time to ask questions about ‘life in Kindergarten’.  Please note that from 5:00pm-6:30pm, we will be hosting Safe Environment Training for any parent who has not received this course.  This course must be completed before any adult is allowed to coach, chaperone, or in short, interact with students at Holy Trinity.  If you have already received this training, we look forward to see you at 6:30pm.  We hope to see everyone there.

Because your little ones have many supplies to carry to begin the school year, we ask that you bring their supplies to the Meet-Your-Teacher Open House (August 10th), not to the Potluck. This will give you and your child an opportunity to visit his/her new classroom and to meet his/her teacher. By bringing in the supplies a little early, it will be less stressful for the children, and everyone will be ready for the first day of school.

v  MEET YOUR TEACHER OPEN HOUSE: The faculty will be in their classrooms during our Meet-Your-Teacher Open House on Monday, August 10th, from 6:00-8:00pm. Please stop by the classrooms, introduce yourselves, and let your children meet their new teachers. (Please note that we will send homeroom lists via email prior to that night.)

v  SIXTH GRADE PARENT/STUDENT MEETING: We will have a mandatory 6th grade parent and student meeting on Monday, August 3rd.   This will begin at 6:30pm and end at 8:30pm.   At this meeting we will distribute iPads, have an overview of our expectations, and discuss cyber-safety.   Please note that your child will not be able to pick up his/her iPad until our IT staff speaks with a parent and the student about cyber-safety and guidelines.

v  FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is Wednesday, August 12th. It is a FULL day of school, beginning at 7:55am, and we will begin dismissing at 2:40pm.

v  PARENT ORIENTATION NIGHTS will be held on Tuesday, August 25th from 6:30-8:30pm (grades 1-4), and on Thursday, August 27thfrom 6:30-8:30pm (grades 5-8) for parents to visit the classrooms, hear presentations by the teachers concerning the curriculum, the schedule, expectations, etc. We will begin in church and then dismiss to the classrooms.

v  PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK: Please make sure you take time to read the Handbook carefully. A handbook agreement form will be sent home in the Friday folder shortly after school starts.  Parents are required to sign the form and return it to each child’s homeroom teacher.

v  CALENDAR: A calendar for the 2015-2016 school year is available by clicking on the link on the list of registration materials below. It is also on the website. This calendar has important information concerning events happening here at Holy Trinity Parish School. While we have not listed everything, this will be a handy guide. As additional events are announced, please write them on your HTPS calendar.

v  WEEKLY NEWSLETTER: The Holy Trinity Parish School Newsletter is sent home via e-mail. Please make sure your email address is correct on myHTPS and that this address will accept our newsletter.  The newsletter will also be available on the website.

v  IMMUNIZATION/PHYSICAL/EYE EXAM RECORDS must be up-to-date for all students. Students entering Sixth Grade need to provide a current immunization certificate and a 6th grade physical form before school begins. New students entering our school from another state must have immunization and physical records on Kentucky Forms (we need to have the original copy). We must have them on file before the start of the school year. If you have not already turned them into the office, please do so with your Registration materials. It is a state law that all students’ medical records be current at the beginning of the school year.  In addition, all students entering pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade must provide an eye exam form from an optometrist or ophthalmologist (we need to have the original copy).

v  YMCA AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM: Information concerning the YMCA Extended School Care Program is included in the registration materials.  If you have any questions, please contact the YMCA at 637-1575.  Additionally, someone from the YMCA will be at Meet Your Teacher Night to assist with registering your child for this program.

v  CLASSROOM SUPPLIES LIST: The School Supplies List is included in the registration materials.

v  ATTENTION PARENTS: Please take a few minutes before school starts to put your child’s name on all his/her uniform clothing. Many times your child’s items find their way to the Lost and Found. Help us get your child’s clothing back to him or her promptly. A permanent marker will do the job! Write your child’s name on the inside of their clothing: sweaters, coats, jackets, lunch boxes, gloves/hats, anything else your child wears or brings to school. Many items go unclaimed each year.

v  REGISTERED BUS RIDERS Individual routes will be emailed to parents in July.  If you have any bus related questions, please contact Jennifer Gilmore at 475-1062 or jennvgilmore@gmail.com.

Please call me if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance to you during the summer. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Sincerely,
