Holy Thursday Service Celebrates Students' Service

Each year, every grade at Holy Trinity Parish School adopts a mission. Each month, throughout the year, they complete service projects for that organization.  On Holy Thursday, we recall how Jesus served others and washed the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper. As part of their Annual Holy Thursday Service, students at Holy Trinity also recall their service to others and wash the feet of their fellow students who have served others.

The Pre-K students served Sister Visitor Center this year with various personal hygiene and food drives. Kindergarten and 1st Grade students made Christmas stockings and Easter Baskets for children who are homeless and receive resources via the Schuhmann Center. The Hospital Hospitality House received baked goods, cleaning supplies, and student-made door decorations each month from our 2nd graders, while the 3rd graders provided items for St. Joseph’s Children Home. Our 4th graders work with the Golden Arrow to collect baby hygiene items, Christmas gifts, Easter Basket items, and monetary donations to cover some of the organization’s expenses.

For our 5th – 8th grade students, the service work focuses on our students actually visiting with and assisting guests at various missions. Our 5th graders visit the Masonic Home to sing, play BINGO, and spread good cheer each month. 6th grade collects various items throughout the year for Refugees through Catholic Charities and delivers items to their homes. 7th Grade collects food donations and serves at Kids’ Café each week, while the 8th graders invite individuals at the Harbor House into our school for seasonal festivities and lunch at school. This year, the 8th graders also participated in two mission trips to serve those living in Appalachia through Hand in Hand Ministries.

Mother Theresa said, “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.” If you’d like to get involved with any of these organizations or missions, we invite you to do so by visiting their website and contacting their volunteer coordinator.
