During the second grade year, children have the opportunity to experience developmentally appropriate activities in mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, and religion. Daily lessons focus on our goal to meet the needs of each individual student. Our objectives incorporate higher-order thinking skills through the use of discussion and investigation. The diverse needs of each student are met through differentiated methods, using one-on-one, small group, and whole class instruction. Educational trips include a variety of activities focused on our curriculum, including Louisville Bat Factory, Junior Achievement, and "Let's Eat" presented by the Louisville Zoo (teaching students about food chains).
With our vision in mind, “To be a school of excellence that encompasses the whole child by modeling Jesus through our Catholic teachings, commitment to academics, service to the community and devotion as life-long servers to God,” second grade students participate in a curriculum rich with character development. Second grade is a special year in our students’ faith development. Students prepare for and participate in the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. The Service Learning mission for second grade is meeting the needs of Hospital Hospitality House. Our children’s goal will be to do something special each month to help the families who are staying at the Hospitality House. This facility is available to families from outside Jefferson County who have loved ones in area hospitals.
Second graders receive a firm foundation with many interesting, challenging, and fun activities.
