JUST LOOK WHAT WE’VE BEEN DOING IN THIRD GRADE!
RELIGION-Thanks to all of those who made our Hospitality House Service Project a huge success this last month. On pick-up day it is a joy to see all of the materials headed out to help others have a home away from home. Remember we can collect supplies at all times. You do not have to wait until your assigned month to donate those wonderful Target type supplies.
MATH- We’ve been reviewing our addition facts and improving our skills with mad minutes. Please continue to practice nightly! The four and five digit subtraction problems of chapter 3 will be hard for students who are not quick with fact recall. We have taught the students how to add to check subtraction problems. Please reinforce this at home. There is a basic math fact computer game called “Math Magician” under the “Favorite Websites” icon on the Holy Trinity web page that would provide your child with some extra practice.
READING- We are focusing this month on what it means to demonstrate your comprehension of a text on paper. How do you show what you know about what you have read? How do you answer a comprehension question in complete sentences using the words within the question in your answer? What does it mean to read your written response back to yourself and make revisions where necessary?
SCIENCE- Habitats were great! There were only a couple of untimely deaths. We are learning about animals, their needs, and their environment in Chapter 2. Please remember to read over this chapter with your child to help them retain the information. Our test on Chapter 2 will be Tuesday, November 14. Then we’ll be moving on to Chapter 3, which investigates the roles plants and animals have in our environment. Keep studying!!
SOCIAL STUDIES- I have enjoyed learning about all the different cultures and ancestors that the Third Graders have. A lot of history here! The students did a fabulous job on the communities that they created. As the students present their communities, the audiences are asking very insightful questions about the aspects of the communities. Make sure you ask your child about the laws, custom, and celebration that their group created. We will soon talk about timelines and learn about the different states.
ENGLISH- We are encouraging the children to apply the English skills they are learning across the curriculum. If they are writing sentences in any subject, we are asking them to look at their writing closely as if it were a DOL sentence. We want to help them establish positive patterns of behavior that will follow them throughout their educational journey.
