SCIENCE PROJECT # 1
Dear Parents, For our first adventure in Science, we will be studying about Plants and Animals. Please look over your child’s text and familiarize yourself with the contents. On the back of this letter are the directions and rubric for our first science project. Please read it with your child. The due date is October 9. The project incorporates Language Arts and Science skills. During our adventure, I encourage the children to bring in various things about animals to share with the class. Examples are zoo books, snakeskins, skeletons, etc. We have some habitats set up in our classroom for observation. Please ask your children about them. My number one goal for the children is interest and excitement in science. They are however accountable for learning the material covered in class and in their text, and any guidance you can give at home is appreciated.

****IMPORTANT NOTES ON PROJECT #1****
1. Please make sure containers for the project are plastic. 2. Parents are asked to put air holes in the containers if needed. The hot tip of a fork or skewer works well to melt holes in plastic. 3. Please make sure containers are small (about the size of a corsage box and no larger than a shoebox). Parents are not allowed to carry habitats into school for the student. 4. We would also greatly appreciate habitats that are escape-proof. 5. Please read the directions and rubric on the next page.
