PROJECT DUE DATE IS OCTOBER 9 DIRECTIONS FOR SCIENCE PROJECT #1
1. Choose a creature you will capture for your habitat. Ask your parents for help if you are not sure. Some suggestions are: moths, flies, worms, caterpillars, crickets, frogs, grasshoppers, and katydids. Mammals are not allowed! 2. Observe your creature in nature to see where it likes to live and what it likes to eat. You can use an encyclopedia or Internet sites to help you discover what the needs are for your animal. 3. Construct a habitat for your creature. Small plastic containers (no bigger than a shoebox) from groceries and flower shops work great. You may purchase a small container from your local pet store. Remember to include all things your creature needs to survive. DO NOT USE GLASS CONTAINERS!!!! 4. After you have observed your creature for a while and have made its habitat, you may catch your creature and put it in its habitat. You may not buy your creature. You must capture it. 5. Write a small report about your creature and what you discovered by observing and researching it. Make sure you use your own words and do not copy from the encyclopedia. Use and underline some vocabulary words you have learned from Unit A and Unit B in your science text (at least 5). Look at the rubric below to see how your report will be graded. 6. Bring your habitat and report into school on the due date. Students, you are to carry in your own projects so please make sure your habitats are small and portable! Your creature should be able to live in its habitat for at least three days in the classroom. You may feed it and give it water during the three days. 7. After your habitat has been judged, you may take it home and set your creature free. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING!!!!
